Privacy Policy
What we collect, why, and the choices you have — in plain language.
Last updated: 4 August 2026 — applies to explored.live and every city subdomain.
Who runs Explored
Explored (explored.live and its city sites) is an independent travel-guide project run by Roberto Martini. There's no company, no ad network sales team, no call center — just one person building city guides. For the purposes of privacy law, Roberto Martini is the data controller for any personal data described below.
What we collect
There are no user accounts on Explored — no sign-up, no password, no profile. The only personal data we ever receive is what you choose to send us directly, through the contact form on any city site: your name, your email address, and your message, sent via Cloudflare Email Routing straight to our inbox — it isn't stored in a database. The form is also protected by a Cloudflare Turnstile verification check, governed by Cloudflare's own privacy policy.
That's the entire list. We don't run a mailing list, we don't sell or share this with data brokers, and we don't build advertising profiles from it ourselves.
What stays on your device
Explored is a static site with essentially no back end, so most of what makes it feel personal to you — your language, your saved places — never leaves your browser. It's stored locally and only you can see it: your language preference; your cookie/ad consent choice, so we don't ask again every visit; your location toggle — if you grant your browser's own location permission, your coordinates are used only to sort places by distance and are never sent to us or anyone else, and turning it off clears this immediately; and your “My Trip” saved list of bookmarked places, which lives only in your browser — we have no way to see, back up, or recover it.
Clearing your browser's site data for explored.live removes all of it instantly. On our end there's nothing to delete, because there was never anything to begin with.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see aggregate traffic (which pages get visited, roughly how many people, from where) — nothing more. It’s cookieless by design: it doesn’t fingerprint your device, doesn’t set any cookie, and can’t identify you individually. It runs regardless of your cookie consent choice, because it doesn’t need one — there’s nothing in it that qualifies as tracking under GDPR/ePrivacy.
Advertising
Some city sites carry Google AdSense display ads. Nothing ad-related loads until you actively accept it in the cookie banner shown on first visit — reject it, and the site works exactly the same, just without ads. If you do accept, Google may set cookies and use device identifiers to select and measure ads; that's governed by Google's own privacy policy, not ours. You can change your mind at any time by clearing the site's stored consent choice.
Outbound & affiliate links
Attraction pages sometimes link out to book a guided tour (e.g. via GetYourGuide) or show directions via Google Maps. These are plain links — we don't run a tracking pixel or script on our own pages to watch what you do with them. Once you click through, you're on that service's site, under its own privacy policy.
Your rights
If you're in the EU/UK, GDPR gives you the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted. In practice this only ever concerns a message you sent through the contact form — everything described in “What stays on your device” never reaches us in the first place, so there's nothing on our side to request. To exercise any of these rights, reach out via the contact form on any Explored city site and we'll handle it directly, person to person.
Children
Explored is a general-audience travel site, not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect or why ever changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change with it. Significant changes will be noted here rather than buried silently.
Contact
Questions about this policy, or a privacy request above? Use the contact form on any Explored city site (look for “Contact” in the footer) — that’s the fastest way to reach us directly.
